What is 1.4911?

1.4911 (X8CrCoNiMo10-6) is a cobalt- and nickel-modified 10% Cr martensitic heat-resistant steel developed for creep strength in advanced turbine hardware. It is supplied as forgings and bar in +A, +QT800, +QT900, +QT1000 and +FORGED conditions, reaching 760 MPa yield, 960 MPa tensile, 16% elongation and 285 HB (30 HRC) with service to 600 °C. The cobalt content raises cost and the machinability score of 32 means slow, tooling-heavy cutting; corrosion resistance is limited to hot gas and steam, not aqueous service. Where the cobalt addition is not required, 1.4913 or 1.4923 are the usual substitutes. 1.4911 has a density of 7.78 g/cm³ (0.281 lb/in³), lighter than 57% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). 1.4911 has a yield strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) and a tensile strength of 960 MPa (139 ksi) — stronger than 94% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 16% and the elastic modulus is 216 GPa (31.3 Msi).
