What is 1.4983?
1.4983 (X6CrNiMoTiB17-13, S31635) is a titanium-stabilized, boron-modified 316Ti-type austenitic steel that provides improved creep and stress-rupture strength for service to about 650 °C. Conditions on file include solution annealed, annealed plus stabilized, cold drawn, 2B sheet, bright-annealed tube and forged-annealed, with default values of 265 MPa yield, 590 MPa tensile, 40 % elongation and 170 HB (88 HRB). Strength is modest for a heat-resistant grade, and the boron addition increases hot-cracking sensitivity during welding. Plain 316Ti is the fallback when elevated-temperature creep strength is not the driver. 1.4983 has a density of 8 g/cm³ (0.289 lb/in³), heavier than 92% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,385°C (2,525 °F). 1.4983 has a yield strength of 265 MPa (38.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) — weaker than 81% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with 1.4983
Is 1.4983 easy to machine?
Machines like a gummy 316Ti — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy flood coolant, low speed/high feed to avoid work hardening on Ti/B carbide inclusions.
Can 1.4983 be welded?
Weld with GTAW/GMAW/SMAW using Ti- or Nb-stabilized 318-type filler, low heat input and interpass under about 150 °C; the boron addition raises hot-cracking sensitivity, so avoid heavy restraint and wide weaves.
Can 1.4983 be formed, bent or molded?
Good cold formability in the annealed condition but high work-hardening rate; hot form at 1100–900 °C then solution anneal and rapid cool to restore creep properties.

What surface finishes work on 1.4983?
Pickle and passivate after hot work or welding (ASTM A967); electropolishing or mechanical polishing works, though Ti carbonitride stringers limit true mirror quality — anodizing is not applicable.
