What is E347?
E347 is a niobium-stabilized 304-type covered electrode (UNS W34710, AWS A5.4 family, supplied as E347-15, -16, -17 and -26 coatings) whose deposit resists intergranular corrosion after high-temperature exposure. Engineers specify it for stabilized stainless piping and vessels; as-welded deposit typically shows 420 MPa yield, 600 MPa tensile, 37 % elongation and about 180 HB (89 HRB), with service to 800 C. It is a filler metal only, and ferrite must be held near 4-10 FN to avoid hot cracking. Where stabilization against sensitization is not required, E308L is the lower-cost alternative. E347 has a density of 7.9 g/cm³ (0.285 lb/in³), heavier than 68% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). E347 has a yield strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) — stronger than 64% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 37% and the elastic modulus is 195 GPa (28.3 Msi).

Working with E347
Is E347 easy to machine?
Deposit machines like 347: low speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide tooling, rigid setup and flood coolant to fight work hardening; grind out slag inclusions before finish cuts.
Can E347 be welded?
SMAW with short arc, low heat input and interpass temperature below ~150 °C; redry electrodes (250–300 °C for basic types) and keep ferrite about 4–10 FN to avoid hot cracking.
Can E347 be formed, bent or molded?
Not a forming product — the deposit is ductile (>30 % elongation) but weld caps should be dressed before any cold bending of the joint.

What surface finishes work on E347?
Remove all slag, then pickle and passivate or electropolish; never use carbon-steel brushes or grinding media that would embed iron and cause rust staining.
