What is 1.4335?
1.4335 (X1CrNi25-21) is an ultra-low-carbon, high-chromium high-nickel austenitic stainless comparable to 310S / S31008, with the 25Cr-21Ni balance giving oxidation resistance to about 1050 °C. Engineers specify it for furnace and heat-recovery hardware because the very low carbon avoids carbide precipitation, so no post-weld solution anneal is needed (weldability score 82); it is stocked as AT plate, HR-1D, CR-2B, 2R, hot-finished bar, cold drawn and 1/4H to FH. Typical annealed values are 270 MPa yield, 580 MPa tensile, 48 % elongation and 150 HB (80 HRB), with a formability score of 72. Cost is high because of the nickel content, and sigma-phase embrittlement can occur on long holds in the intermediate temperature range; 309S-type grades are the cheaper option at lower temperature. 1.4335 has a density of 7.9 g/cm³ (0.285 lb/in³), heavier than 68% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). 1.4335 has a yield strength of 270 MPa (39.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) — weaker than 79% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 48% and the elastic modulus is 196 GPa (28.4 Msi).

Working with 1.4335
Is 1.4335 easy to machine?
Gummy and strongly work hardening — use rigid setups, positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, 15–25 m/min for HSS drilling and flood coolant to avoid glazing the cut.
Can 1.4335 be welded?
Excellent weldability by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matching 25/20 low-carbon filler (ER310L / E310-15); keep interpass ≤150 °C and heat input low to limit hot cracking and σ-phase, no post-weld solution anneal required.
Can 1.4335 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but needs ~50% more press force than 304 due to high work-hardening; hot work 1150–1200 °C and always finish above 950 °C, then solution anneal 1050–1120 °C with rapid cooling.
