What is HG10MNN?
HG-10MnN (J92604, ASTM A297/A743) is a manganese- and nitrogen-alloyed low-nickel heat-resistant cast stainless steel developed as a nickel-saving alternative to standard 18-8 heat-resistant castings. Supplied heat-treated, as-cast, stress-relieved or centrifugally cast, it provides 290 MPa yield, 585 MPa tensile, 35 % elongation and 175 HB (87 HRB) with service to 900 °C. Machinability (32), weldability (58) and corrosion resistance (58) are all modest, and high-Mn melts need nitrogen-controlled practice; HF is the nearest alternative when nickel content is not restricted. HG10MNN has a density of 7.75 g/cm³ (0.28 lb/in³), lighter than 65% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,370°C (2,498 °F). HG10MNN has a yield strength of 290 MPa (42.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 585 MPa (84.8 ksi) — weaker than 72% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 190 GPa (27.6 Msi).

Working with HG10MNN
Is HG10MNN easy to machine?
Machine like a nitrogen-strengthened austenitic: rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feed and low speed to cut under the work-hardened skin, flood coolant.
Can HG10MNN be welded?
Weldable with GTAW/SMAW using over-alloyed austenitic filler (e.g. 309/E309Mo type); keep interpass low, no preheat, and re-solution-treat critical castings after major repair.
Can HG10MNN be formed, bent or molded?
Cast only — high-Mn melts need nitrogen-controlled melting, generous risering and fast pouring to avoid pinholes and hot tears; no cold forming.

What surface finishes work on HG10MNN?
Grit-blast and pickle/passivate in nitric-based solution after casting; can be ground and polished, but casting porosity limits mirror finishes and no anodising applies.
