What is 1.4307?
1.4307 is the low-carbon (C ≤ 0.03 %) 18/8 austenitic stainless of EN 10088, equivalent to 304L, S30403 and SUS304L. The low carbon suppresses grain-boundary carbide precipitation, so welded assemblies keep their corrosion resistance without a post-weld anneal; it is stocked as 2B and 1D sheet, plate, tube, bar and cold-worked strip from +CP350 to +C1000. Solution-annealed (+AT) properties are 290 MPa yield, 580 MPa tensile, 55 % elongation and 150 HB, with service to 425 °C. Machinability is poor (score 38) and chloride pitting resistance is limited — use 1.4404 (316L) for seawater or de-icing salts. 1.4307 has a density of 7.9 g/cm³ (0.285 lb/in³), heavier than 68% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). 1.4307 has a yield strength of 290 MPa (42.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) — weaker than 72% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 55% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).
What is 1.4307 used for?

Working with 1.4307
Is 1.4307 easy to machine?
Gummy and strongly work-hardening: use sharp, positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, heavy constant feed (no dwelling), 80–140 m/min turning speed and copious coolant.
Can 1.4307 be welded?
Excellent by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW/laser with ER308L/E308L filler; low carbon avoids post-weld annealing, but keep interpass below ~150 °C and use backing gas on root passes.
Can 1.4307 be formed, bent or molded?
Very good deep drawing and bending (min bend radius ≈ 0.5 t annealed); allow large springback and expect ~30–50 % strength gain from cold work.
