What is E2593?
E2593 is a 25Cr-9Ni-3Mo super duplex stainless covered electrode classified under AWS A5.4 (UNS W39593) and supplied in -15, -16 and -17 coating types. Engineers select it for high-strength duplex weldments in chloride-bearing service, where as-welded deposits give about 620 MPa yield, 830 MPa tensile and 22% elongation at roughly 265 HB (26 HRC). Heat input and interpass temperature must be controlled to keep the austenite/ferrite balance, and service is limited to about 260 °C to avoid embrittlement. Where higher pitting and crevice resistance is required, E2594 is the nearest alternative. E2593 has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³), heavier than 50% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). E2593 has a yield strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 830 MPa (120 ksi) — stronger than 88% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with E2593
Is E2593 easy to machine?
Weld deposit is tough and work-hardening: use rigid setups, sharp carbide, heavy positive feed and low speed; grinding is often easier than turning.
Can E2593 be welded?
SMAW DCEP (or AC for -16/-17); redry electrodes 250–300 °C/1–2 h, keep heat input 0.5–2.0 kJ/mm and interpass ≤150 °C to hold ferrite about 30–60 FN.
Can E2593 be formed, bent or molded?
Not a wrought form — deposit is used as-welded; cold straightening of duplex weldments should be avoided to prevent cracking.
