What is SUS890L?
SUS890L is a JIS super-austenitic stainless comparable to 904L, using high nickel plus molybdenum and low carbon for resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acids as well as chlorides. It is chosen where 316L suffers general corrosion or stress-corrosion cracking, and is available as annealed and hot-rolled annealed plate, cold-rolled 2B sheet, cold-drawn bar, quarter- and half-hard strip and annealed tube. Annealed properties are 260 MPa yield, 590 MPa tensile and 45 % elongation, with a maximum service temperature of 400 °C. Alloy cost and poor machinability are the main limits; SUS836L is the cheaper high-Mo option when only chloride pitting matters. SUS890L has a density of 7.98 g/cm³ (0.288 lb/in³), heavier than 85% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,320°C (2,408 °F). SUS890L has a yield strength of 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) — weaker than 84% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 195 GPa (28.3 Msi).

Working with SUS890L
Is SUS890L easy to machine?
Tough and gummy with strong work hardening — use rigid setups, positive-rake carbide, heavy feeds, low-to-moderate speed and copious high-lubricity coolant; never dwell in the cut.
Can SUS890L be welded?
Readily welded by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with over-alloyed Ni-base filler (ERNiCrMo-3 / Alloy 625) to avoid Mo segregation; low heat input, no preheat, interpass < 150 °C, pickle and passivate afterwards.
Can SUS890L be formed, bent or molded?
Very ductile but requires ~50 % higher forming loads than 304; allow generous springback, avoid excessive cold work before highly corrosive service or re-anneal at 1100–1150 °C with rapid quench.
