| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SADefault Solution annealed ≥1040 °C, water quenched | Standard supply condition for all pressure-containing castings: maximum ductility, dissolved chromium carbides, Nb held for later stabilization. | 250 | 530 | 38 | 150 HB | — |
SA + stabilization anneal | Optional extra stabilizing soak that ties carbon up as NbC before service; chosen for long-term 450–800 °C or severe intergranular-corrosion duty. | 255 | 520 | 34 | 155 HB | 2.2 % IACS |

What is CF10MC?
CF10MC is a columbium (Nb)-stabilized 19Cr-9Ni-Mo cast austenitic stainless steel (UNS J92971), essentially CF8C with a molybdenum addition, supplied under the ASTM cast stainless family. Engineers specify it for sand and investment cast valve bodies and pump casings where welding or elevated-temperature exposure must not cause carbide precipitation in Mo-bearing service; default values are 250 MPa yield, 530 MPa tensile, 38 % elongation, 150 HB (80 HRB) and service to 760 °C. Machinability is low (score 35) because the matrix work-hardens and carries hard NbC particles, and casting skin limits achievable surface finish. Choose CF8C where molybdenum is not needed, or CF8M where stabilization is not required. CF10MC has a density of 7.95 g/cm³ (0.287 lb/in³), heavier than 81% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,385°C (2,525 °F). CF10MC has a yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 530 MPa (76.9 ksi) — weaker than 91% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 38% and the elastic modulus is 193 GPa (28 Msi).

Working with CF10MC
Is CF10MC easy to machine?
Work-hardening austenitic casting plus hard NbC particles — use rigid setups, sharp coated carbide, heavy positive feed, 60–110 m/min, flood coolant, avoid dwelling.
Can CF10MC be welded?
Very good with GTAW/SMAW using ER/E 316Cb (or 316L/347 matching) filler; Nb stabilization means no post-weld solution anneal is normally needed, but keep heat input low and interpass <150 °C to limit hot-cracking in the low-ferrite matrix.
Can CF10MC be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as sand or investment castings; provide generous risering (long freezing range, ~2 % solidification shrinkage) and avoid abrupt section changes; cold forming is not a normal route.

CF10MC — frequently asked
What is CF10MC used for?
CF10MC is typically used for valve bodies, pump castings for high-temperature service and stabilized weldable pressure castings. In short: nb-stabilized Mo cast austenitic; as-welded, no solution anneal; 760 °C service capability.
What is the yield strength of CF10MC?
CF10MC has a typical yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 530 MPa (76.9 ksi) — weaker than 91% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 3 listed tempers.
Is CF10MC easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (35/100, better than 51% of stainless steel grades). Work-hardening austenitic casting plus hard NbC particles — use rigid setups, sharp coated carbide, heavy positive feed, 60–110 m/min, flood coolant, avoid dwelling.
Can CF10MC be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated very good (82/100). Very good with GTAW/SMAW using ER/E 316Cb (or 316L/347 matching) filler; Nb stabilization means no post-weld solution anneal is normally needed, but keep heat input low and interpass <150 °C to limit hot-cracking in the low-ferrite matrix.

What is the maximum service temperature of CF10MC?
CF10MC is rated for continuous use to about 760°C (1,400 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
