What is 1.4982?
1.4982 (X10CrNiMoMnNbVB15-10-1) is a Nb/V/B-microalloyed, manganese-bearing austenitic steel engineered for creep strength and dimensional stability in high-temperature turbine and boiler bolting up to about 700 °C. Supplied solution treated, solution treated plus stress relieved, cold drawn or as welded product, it gives 330 MPa yield, 660 MPa tensile, 45 % elongation and 185 HB (90 HRB). Weldability is the highest of the creep-resistant austenitics listed here at 70/100, but machinability is low at 30/100 and the high work-hardening rate raises forming loads. 1.4981 is the nearest alternative when Nb stabilization alone is enough. 1.4982 has a density of 7.9 g/cm³ (0.285 lb/in³), heavier than 68% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,370°C (2,498 °F). 1.4982 has a yield strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 660 MPa (95.7 ksi) — weaker than 57% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with 1.4982
Is 1.4982 easy to machine?
Machines like a tough 316 but harder: rigid setups, positive-rake sharp carbide, heavy constant feed and flood coolant to avoid work-hardened glazing; expect ~30 % of 1212 rates.
Can 1.4982 be welded?
Readily welded by TIG/MMA/SAW with matching Nb-bearing 15Cr-10Ni-6Mn filler; keep heat input and interpass temperature low to limit hot-cracking, no post-weld heat treatment mandatory but 750 °C stabilizing is common for creep duty.
Can 1.4982 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot work 1150–950 °C then solution treat; cold forming possible but the high work-hardening rate demands high forming loads and intermediate anneals.
