What is 1.4864?
1.4864 (X12NiCrSi35-16, N08330) is a high-nickel austenitic heat-resistant grade with elevated silicon that builds a protective Cr-Si oxide for scaling resistance under cyclic high-temperature service. It is chosen for furnace hardware in oxidizing atmospheres up to 1050 °C and is supplied as annealed sheet, hot-rolled plate, cold-drawn bar, quarter-hard cold-worked strip and bright-annealed tube. Room-temperature strength is modest (255 MPa yield, 585 MPa tensile, 43 % elongation) and the high-Si austenite work-hardens quickly, so machining is slow; sulphur-bearing atmospheres and contaminants must be avoided. For higher-temperature furnace internals, 1.4886 (RA330) is the nearest step up. 1.4864 has a density of 7.94 g/cm³ (0.287 lb/in³), heavier than 78% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,360°C (2,480 °F). 1.4864 has a yield strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) and a tensile strength of 585 MPa (84.8 ksi) — weaker than 87% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 43% and the elastic modulus is 196 GPa (28.4 Msi).
What is 1.4864 used for?

Working with 1.4864
Is 1.4864 easy to machine?
Rigid setups, positive-rake carbide, heavy constant feed and flood coolant; the high-Si austenite work-hardens fast so avoid dwelling and rubbing.
Can 1.4864 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matching 330 filler or ERNiCr-3/ENiCrFe-3; no preheat needed, keep interpass below ~150 °C and heat input low to limit hot-cracking from the high Si.
Can 1.4864 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms like a stiff 310S — allow extra springback and interstage anneals at 1050–1100 °C; hot work between 1150 and 950 °C then rapid cool.
