What is 1.4443?

1.4443 (GX4CrNiMo19-11-3) is a standard-carbon cast Cr-Ni-Mo austenitic stainless steel close to ASTM A351 CF8M, with molybdenum slightly above the base CF8M range. It serves general chemical and marine duty — pump casings, valve bodies and fittings — sand or investment cast and supplied solution annealed or HIP'd. Typical values are 250 MPa yield, 500 MPa tensile, 40 % elongation, 160 HB and service to 550 °C, with machinability rated 35. Its corrosion score (65) is the lowest of the Mo-bearing grades listed here; use low-carbon 1.4409 (CF3M) for as-welded corrosion service. 1.4443 has a density of 7.98 g/cm³ (0.288 lb/in³), heavier than 85% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). 1.4443 has a yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — weaker than 91% of stainless steel grades. Working with 1.4443

Is 1.4443 easy to machine?

Gummy and work-hardening: use rigid setups, sharp coated carbide, 60–120 m/min, heavy positive feed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling to prevent glazing.

Can 1.4443 be welded?

Readily welded with ER316L/E316L or 317L filler, no preheat, low interpass temperature; solution anneal after major repair welds to restore corrosion resistance of the standard-carbon matrix.

Can 1.4443 be formed, bent or molded?

Sand or investment cast with generous risering (high shrinkage ~2 %), controlled ferrite 5–20 FN for hot-tear resistance; no cold forming beyond light straightening.
