What is S20433?
S20433 is a further nickel-lean variant of the Type-201 Cr-Mn austenitic family, specified where material cost is prioritised over corrosion resistance relative to 304. Annealed material gives 380 MPa yield, 760 MPa tensile, 50 % elongation and 190 HB (90 HRB) with service to 700 °C, in tempers from annealed and hot-rolled annealed-pickled through cold-drawn and full hard. Machinability is poor (rating 35) and outdoor corrosion resistance is limited, so exposed parts need coating. Step up to S20431 or 304 where durability or finish life matters. S20433 has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³), heavier than 50% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). S20433 has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) — stronger than 52% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 50% and the elastic modulus is 197 GPa (28.6 Msi).

Working with S20433
Is S20433 easy to machine?
Work hardens very fast — use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, low-to-moderate speed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling or rubbing.
Can S20433 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW/resistance welding with 308L or 307/209 type filler; keep heat input low and interpass temperature down to limit sensitisation, Cu segregation and hot cracking, and pickle/passivate afterwards.
Can S20433 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent deep drawing and roll forming in the annealed state but 20–30 % higher forming loads and more springback than 304; interstage anneal for severe multi-stage draws.
