Working with S35140
Is S35140 easy to machine?
Treat as a high-nickel austenitic: rigid setups, positive-rake sharp carbide, low speed / heavy positive feed, flood coolant and no dwelling to avoid rapid work hardening.
Can S35140 be welded?
Readily welded by GTAW/GMAW/plasma with Ni-Cr-Mo filler (ERNiCrMo-3 type) or matching wire; keep interpass temperature low, no preheat and normally no post-weld heat treatment.
Can S35140 be formed, bent or molded?
Good cold formability for bellows, convoluted hose and deep-drawn parts, but the work-hardening rate is high — allow extra press tonnage and interstage anneal at ~1050–1120 °C with rapid cooling.
