What is 1.4595?

1.4595 (X1CrNb15) is an ultra-low-carbon, niobium-stabilized 15% Cr ferritic stainless steel supplied mainly as 2B, 2R and 1D sheet plus C700 and full-hard cold-rolled tempers. It is chosen for formed and welded sheet parts in mild service, combining a formability score of 75 and weldability score of 80 with annealed values of 260 MPa yield, 450 MPa tensile, 30% elongation, 150 HB and service to 750 °C. Corrosion resistance is limited (score 45) and machinability is moderate (55), so move to 1.4520 (439) or 304 for wetter or chloride-bearing environments. 1.4595 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 1.4595 has a yield strength of 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 84% of stainless steel grades. Working with 1.4595

Is 1.4595 easy to machine?

Machines like 430/439 — use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, moderate speed and heavy feed to avoid work-hardened glaze and built-up edge.

Can 1.4595 be welded?

Excellent for a ferritic: Nb stabilization plus ultra-low C+N avoids sensitization; use low heat input, minimal interpass, 309L/430Nb or matching filler, no post-weld anneal normally required.

Can 1.4595 be formed, bent or molded?

Good deep-drawing and bending in 2B/2R condition; watch ridging/roping and drawing-direction anisotropy, and avoid severe stretch forming (lower n-value than austenitics).
