What is S30530?
S30530 is a copper-bearing 18Cr-9Ni austenitic stainless engineered for a low work-hardening rate so that severe cold-heading operations can be completed with fewer intermediate anneals. Annealed material runs about 240 MPa yield, 550 MPa tensile, 55 % elongation and 140 HB (76 HRB), with a maximum service temperature of 700 °C; it is supplied mainly as cold-heading wire and bar in ANN, AP, CD, 1/4H–FH and stress-relieved conditions. The copper addition increases hot-cracking sensitivity, so it is not a grade chosen for welded assemblies — use 304/304L where welding governs. S30530 has a density of 7.9 g/cm³ (0.285 lb/in³), heavier than 68% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,400°C (2,552 °F). S30530 has a yield strength of 240 MPa (34.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) — weaker than 96% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 55% and the elastic modulus is 193 GPa (28 Msi).

Working with S30530
Is S30530 easy to machine?
Gummy and work-hardening like 304 but slightly kinder; use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy coolant and constant feed to avoid glazing.
Can S30530 be welded?
Weldable by GTAW/GMAW/resistance methods with 308L filler, but the copper content raises hot-cracking sensitivity — keep heat input low and dilution controlled; not a grade chosen for welded assemblies.
Can S30530 be formed, bent or molded?
Its reason for existing: low work-hardening rate allows severe multi-blow cold heading, thread rolling and deep upsetting with far less die stress and inter-anneal than 304/302.
