What is 1.4369?
1.4369 (X11CrNiMnN19-8-6) is a nitrogen-strengthened, reduced-nickel CrNiMn austenitic stainless that delivers strength and corrosion resistance in the range of standard 300-series grades at lower material cost. Nitrogen and manganese lift the annealed level to about 400 MPa yield, 750 MPa tensile, 48 % elongation and 210 HB (95 HRB), and it is available annealed, BA, cold drawn, hot rolled and in C700 to C1150 cold-worked tempers for fasteners and structural strip. The trade-offs are lower machinability (score 30), moderate weldability (65) and corrosion resistance below 304 (score 55) at the 0.08–0.15 %C level. Use 1.4301 (304) where chloride exposure or as-welded corrosion performance governs. 1.4369 has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³), heavier than 50% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,390°C (2,534 °F). 1.4369 has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 750 MPa (109 ksi) — stronger than 57% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 48% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with 1.4369
Is 1.4369 easy to machine?
Work-hardens rapidly like 304 but harder still due to nitrogen — use rigid setups, sharp coated carbide, positive rake, heavy positive feed and generous coolant; avoid dwelling.
Can 1.4369 be welded?
Weldable by TIG/MIG/resistance methods with 307/308L-type or high-Mn fillers; keep heat input low and avoid post-weld sensitisation from the 0.08–0.15 %C level in corrosive service.
Can 1.4369 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent deep-drawing and bending in the annealed state, though higher press tonnage and stronger springback compensation are needed than for 304; interstage annealing for severe draws.

What surface finishes work on 1.4369?
Takes 2B, BA and mirror polishes well; passivate or electropolish after fabrication — do not anodise. Manganese content can make pickling and weld-scale removal slightly slower.
