What is S35125?

S35125 is a 35Ni-Cr superaustenitic stainless alloy of the high-temperature family, offering creep strength and oxidation resistance for service up to about 1100 °C. Solution-annealed properties are 270 MPa yield, 600 MPa tensile, 45 % elongation and 165 HB, and product is available as solution-annealed and hot-rolled annealed pickled material, cold-drawn annealed and cold-worked bar and as-welded tube. It work-hardens like a nickel-base alloy, so machining is slow and cold forming needs about 50 % higher loads than 304. It is a heat-resisting grade, not a wet-acid grade — use Alloy 28 or a 6Mo austenitic for aqueous acid service. S35125 has a density of 7.95 g/cm³ (0.287 lb/in³), heavier than 81% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,330°C (2,426 °F). S35125 has a yield strength of 270 MPa (39.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) — weaker than 79% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 195 GPa (28.3 Msi).

Working with S35125

Is S35125 easy to machine?

Machine like a Ni-base alloy: rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed / heavy positive feed, flood coolant and no dwelling to avoid severe work hardening.

Can S35125 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matching 35Ni-25Cr or Ni-base (ERNiCr-3 / ERNiCrCoMo-1) filler; low heat input, interpass ≤150 °C, no preheat and normally no PWHT.

Can S35125 be formed, bent or molded?

Hot work at 1150–1200 °C and finish above ~950 °C; cold forming is possible but needs ~50 % higher loads than 304 and interstage solution annealing at 1150 °C + rapid cooling.

What surface finishes work on S35125?

Pickle in HNO₃-HF or mechanically descale after hot work, then passivate; electropolishing gives the best high-temperature surface — anodizing is not applicable.

How much does S35125 cost?

S35125 is a high-cost stainless steel ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.

S35125 — frequently asked

What is S35125 used for?

S35125 is typically used for high-temperature furnace fixtures, heat-treating baskets and process piping in thermal service. In short: 1100 °C service ceiling; creep-resistant 35Ni-Cr grade; not for wet acids.

What is the yield strength of S35125?

S35125 has a typical yield strength of 270 MPa (39.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) — weaker than 79% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is S35125 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (25/100, worse than 88% of stainless steel grades). Machine like a Ni-base alloy: rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed / heavy positive feed, flood coolant and no dwelling to avoid severe work hardening.

Can S35125 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated very good (70/100). GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matching 35Ni-25Cr or Ni-base (ERNiCr-3 / ERNiCrCoMo-1) filler; low heat input, interpass ≤150 °C, no preheat and normally no PWHT.

What surface finishes work on S35125?

Pickle in HNO₃-HF or mechanically descale after hot work, then passivate; electropolishing gives the best high-temperature surface — anodizing is not applicable.

Can S35125 be formed, bent or molded?

Hot work at 1150–1200 °C and finish above ~950 °C; cold forming is possible but needs ~50 % higher loads than 304 and interstage solution annealing at 1150 °C + rapid cooling.

What is the maximum service temperature of S35125?

S35125 is rated for continuous use to about 1,100°C (2,012 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between S35125-SA and S35125-CW?

SA is the default condition — standard supply condition for plate, tube and bar; maximum ductility, carbides in solution, best creep and oxidation behaviour. CW: limited-availability hard temper for room-temperature strength in springs and fasteners; not recommended above ~550 °C because cold work recovers. Yield strength is 270 MPa in SA versus 590 MPa in CW.

How much does S35125 cost?

S35125 is a high-cost stainless steel ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
