Working with N08135-AW
Is N08135 easy to machine?
Treat as a nickel alloy: rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed (15–25 m/min) with heavy positive feed to cut beneath the work-hardened layer, flood high-pressure emulsion.
Can N08135 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW or SMAW with overalloyed Ni-Cr-Mo filler (ERNiCrMo-3/-4 or -13); low heat input, interpass < 150 °C, no preheat, back-purge with Ar to protect the root.
Can N08135 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but needs 1.5–2× the force of 304 and generous springback allowance; hot working 1150–900 °C followed by solution anneal ~1150–1200 °C and rapid quench.
What surface finishes work on N08135?
Pickle (HNO3-HF) or bead blast plus passivation after welding to restore the Cr-Mo passive film; electropolishing gives best pitting performance; not anodisable.

N08135-AW — frequently asked
What is N08135-AW used for?
N08135-AW is typically used for high-temperature exhaust components, boiler and superheater tubing, furnace fixtures and chemical process equipment exposed to elevated temperature. In short: heat plus acid resistance; between stainless and nickel alloys; solution-annealed austenitic tubing grade.
What is the yield strength of N08135-AW?
N08135-AW has a typical yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 680 MPa (98.6 ksi) — stronger than 52% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 5 listed tempers.
Is N08135-AW easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated poor (18/100, worse than 99% of stainless steel grades). Treat as a nickel alloy: rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed (15–25 m/min) with heavy positive feed to cut beneath the work-hardened layer, flood high-pressure emulsion.
Can N08135-AW be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated good (65/100). GTAW/GMAW or SMAW with overalloyed Ni-Cr-Mo filler (ERNiCrMo-3/-4 or -13); low heat input, interpass < 150 °C, no preheat, back-purge with Ar to protect the root.
What surface finishes work on N08135-AW?
Pickle (HNO3-HF) or bead blast plus passivation after welding to restore the Cr-Mo passive film; electropolishing gives best pitting performance; not anodisable.
Can N08135-AW be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but needs 1.5–2× the force of 304 and generous springback allowance; hot working 1150–900 °C followed by solution anneal ~1150–1200 °C and rapid quench.
What is the maximum service temperature of N08135-AW?
N08135-AW is rated for continuous use to about 750°C (1,382 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
What is the difference between N08135-SA and N08135-CW?
SA is the default condition — standard supply condition for plate, tube and bar — maximum corrosion resistance and ductility. CW: choose when higher yield strength is required (e.g. downhole tubing, springs, fasteners); corrosion resistance slightly reduced and SCC sensitivity increases with strain. Yield strength is 360 MPa in SA versus 700 MPa in CW.
