A335 P11 is supplied in 5 conditions, soft to hard. HR is the default FabDigit quotes; the values on this page are for it.
Compare all 5 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
full anneal or isothermal anneal (A335 heat-treated condition) | Softest code-compliant condition; choose for maximum bendability, cold expansion and lowest hardness for sour/NACE service. | 275 | 465 | 33 | 140 HB | — |
Normalized and tempered | Default stocked condition for boiler and high-temperature piping: balanced strength, toughness and creep performance with hardness kept under ~163 HB. | 310 | 485 | 30 | 155 HB | — |
HRDefault Hot rolled | Mill hot-finished condition before final heat treatment — used only for redraw/forming stock, since A335 requires final heat treatment for code service. | 340 | 520 | 26 | 170 HB | — |
austenitized ~900–950 °C, air cooled (no temper) | Uniform fine ferrite-bainite with higher strength than annealed; usually followed by tempering, and rarely shipped untempered for code piping. | 350 | 530 | 27 | 170 HB | — |
Quenched and tempered | Used for heavy-wall forgings/pipe or bolting-type parts where higher room-temperature strength is needed; check code allowables, since creep strength is set by chemistry not by quenching. | 470 | 620 | 22 | 16 HRC | — |
What is A335 P11?
A335 P11 is a seamless 1.25Cr-0.5Mo low-alloy ferritic heat-resistant pipe for power boiler main steam and reheat lines, headers, and refinery high-temperature process piping. Chromium and molybdenum raise creep strength and resistance to high-temperature oxidation and hydrogen attack, allowing sustained pressure service at roughly 550-580 °C; delivered annealed or normalized and tempered at 340 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile, 26 % elongation and 170 HB (87 HRB), with 480 °C listed as maximum service temperature. Room-temperature strength is modest, preheat and PWHT are mandatory, and graphitization and temper embrittlement limit very long hot service; A335 P22 is the next step up. A335 P11 has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³), lighter than 87% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). A335 P11 has a yield strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — weaker than 76% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 26% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with A335 P11
Is A335 P11 easy to machine?
Machines like normalized 4130-class low-alloy steel at ~60 % of 1212 — use rigid setups, carbide tooling, moderate speeds and flood coolant; keep hardness ≤163 HB for easy threading and bevelling.
Can A335 P11 be welded?
Readily welded with matching 1.25Cr-0.5Mo filler (E8018-B2 / ER80S-B2), preheat 150–200 °C, interpass control and PWHT 700–750 °C to restore toughness and avoid hydrogen cracking.
Can A335 P11 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot bend 900–1000 °C or cold bend with generous radii followed by re-normalizing/tempering; cold-formed pipe bends normally require post-form heat treatment per ASME B31.1.
