What is A209 T1?
A209 T1 is a seamless carbon-molybdenum boiler and superheater tube steel (UNS K11522) supplied in the T1, T1a and T1b analyses, hot-finished or cold-drawn plus heat-treated. It is chosen for elevated-temperature steam service where plain carbon tube loses strength, at lower cost than Cr-Mo tubing, and is stocked as seamless tube. Typical properties are 260 MPa yield, 450 MPa tensile, 35 % elongation and 140 HB, with service to about 510 °C, good weldability (score 75) and formability (score 68). It has no corrosion resistance and needs coating or aluminizing; step up to a Cr-Mo tube grade above its temperature limit. A209 T1 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,490°C (2,714 °F). A209 T1 has a yield strength of 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 92% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).
