What is 14MoV6-3?
14MoV6-3 (1.7715) is a low-carbon molybdenum-vanadium creep-resisting steel from the EN 10083 group, using Mo and V carbides to hold strength at elevated temperature with a lean alloy content. In the normalized and tempered condition it gives 380 MPa yield, 540 MPa tensile, 22% elongation and about 165 HB, with service to 560 °C; typical forms are seamless tube, header pipe, plate and flanges. It is the most weldable grade in this Cr-Mo-V group (score 55) but still needs 200-300 °C preheat and 700-750 °C PWHT, and it offers no corrosion resistance. 16Mo3 is the simpler choice below about 500 °C. 14MoV6-3 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,460°C (2,660 °F). 14MoV6-3 has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 540 MPa (78.3 ksi) — weaker than 68% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

- Boiler tubes and headers
- Steam piping
- High-temperature flanges
- Power generation components
Advantages
- High service temperature — 560°C (1,040 °F), better than 96% of steel grades

Working with 14MoV6-3
Is 14MoV6-3 easy to machine?
Machines like a 175 HB low-alloy steel — carbide inserts, moderate speeds, rigid setup; the V-carbides make it slightly more abrasive than 16Mo3.
Can 14MoV6-3 be welded?
Weldable by TIG/SMAW/SAW with matching CrMoV filler; preheat 200–300 °C, control interpass, and PWHT at 700–750 °C to restore toughness and creep life.
Can 14MoV6-3 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot bend/forge at 1050–850 °C followed by re-normalizing and tempering; cold bending is limited and needs subsequent stress relief.
