What is A369 FP2?
A369 FP2 is a 0.5Cr-0.5Mo forged and bored alloy steel pipe to ASTM A369, the forged counterpart of A335 P2 seamless pipe. It serves moderate elevated-temperature steam and header duty to 540 °C, supplied annealed, ISO-annealed or normalized and tempered with 255 MPa yield, 450 MPa tensile, 34% elongation and 131 HB. As the leanest Cr-Mo grade in the family it has the best machinability (62) and weldability (72) scores here, but the lowest creep strength and no corrosion resistance. Move to FP12 or FP22 when temperature or pressure increases. A369 FP2 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,490°C (2,714 °F). A369 FP2 has a yield strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 93% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 34% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with A369 FP2
Is A369 FP2 easy to machine?
Machines like annealed low-alloy steel at ~60 % of AISI 1212; use rigid setups and positive-rake carbide for boring long pipe sections.
Can A369 FP2 be welded?
Weldable by SMAW/GTAW with matching 1.25Cr-0.5Mo or 0.5Cr-0.5Mo filler; preheat 150–200 °C and PWHT at 675–730 °C to avoid hard HAZ and hydrogen cracking.
Can A369 FP2 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot bend/form at 900–1050 °C followed by re-annealing or N+T; cold bending is possible for thin walls but springback and residual stress are high.
