What is 10CrMo5-5?
10CrMo5-5 (1.7338, A335 P11) is a low-carbon 1.25Cr-0.5Mo creep-resisting steel used for boiler and superheater tubing at moderate elevated temperatures, stocked as +AR, +A, +N, +NT, +QT and cold-drawn/stress-relieved product. In the default condition it provides 330 MPa yield, 500 MPa tensile, 26 % elongation and 160 HB, with a maximum service temperature of 550 °C. Its low carbon gives good weldability (score 62) and cold bendability (formability 60), but it has no corrosion resistance and needs preheat and PWHT for pressure work. 13CrMoSi5-5 is the closest alternative when better scaling resistance is wanted. 10CrMo5-5 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 10CrMo5-5 has a yield strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — weaker than 78% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 26% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with 10CrMo5-5
Is 10CrMo5-5 easy to machine?
Machines like a normalized 4130-class steel — carbide tooling, moderate speeds, ~60 % of AISI 1212; anneal first for heavy chip removal or threading.
Can 10CrMo5-5 be welded?
Good weldability with matching 1.25Cr-0.5Mo filler (E8018-B2 / ER80S-B2); preheat 150–250 °C and PWHT 700–760 °C to soften the HAZ and avoid hydrogen cracking.
