What is 37Mo2?
37Mo2 (1.5418) is a medium-carbon molybdenum alloy steel from the EN 10083 quenched-and-tempered family, offered +AR, +A, +AC, +FP, +N, +QT, +QT900, +H, +C and +QT+IH. In the +QT default condition it reaches 550 MPa yield, 800 MPa tensile, 15% elongation and 235 HB (22 HRC) with service to 400 °C, which suits shafts, axles and gear blanks in bar and forged form. Machinability is moderate (52/100) and weldability is limited (42/100) because 0.37 %C plus Mo demands preheat and post-weld tempering; there is no corrosion resistance. 42CrMo4 is the usual alternative when deeper hardenability is needed. 37Mo2 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,420°C (2,588 °F). 37Mo2 has a yield strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 800 MPa (116 ksi) — stronger than 71% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 15% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with 37Mo2
Is 37Mo2 easy to machine?
Machine in +A/+AC or +FP (150–185 HB) with carbide tooling; at 235 HB (+QT) reduce speed ~25 % and use rigid setups; grind after hardening.
Can 37Mo2 be welded?
Weldable with low-hydrogen consumables but Mo + 0.37 C means preheat 200–300 °C, control interpass and stress-relieve/temper 550–650 °C after welding.
Can 37Mo2 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold form only in the spheroidize-annealed (+AC) condition; otherwise hot forge 1100–850 °C followed by normalizing or Q&T.
