What is C95200?
C95200 is a basic aluminium bronze casting alloy with about 9 % aluminium and iron, the entry grade of the copper-aluminium cast bronzes. It is chosen for general industrial hardware needing strength plus corrosion resistance, cast by sand, centrifugal and continuous routes, with 552 MPa tensile strength, 207 MPa yield, 30 % elongation and 115 HB. Machinability is only about 50 % of free-cutting brass and the tenacious alumina film complicates casting and plating; for seawater duty and higher strength, C95800 nickel-aluminium bronze is the usual step up. C95200 has a density of 7.64 g/cm³ (0.276 lb/in³), lighter than 92% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,043°C (1,909 °F). C95200 has a yield strength of 207 MPa (30 ksi) and a tensile strength of 552 MPa (80.1 ksi) — weaker than 52% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 30% and the elastic modulus is 110 GPa (16 Msi).

Working with C95200
Is C95200 easy to machine?
Machines like a tough gummy bronze at ~50 % of free-cutting brass: use sharp positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, moderate speeds with generous coolant to avoid work-hardened skin and built-up edge.
Can C95200 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW with matching aluminium-bronze filler (ERCuAl-A2) works well; keep interpass temperature low, clean the tenacious Al₂O₃ film mechanically before each pass, and avoid oxyacetylene.
Can C95200 be formed, bent or molded?
A casting alloy only — sand, centrifugal and continuous cast; needs quiescent bottom filling, generous chills/risers and oxide-skim control because the oxide film causes lap defects.

Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Alprimary strengthener, forms α+κ structure | 8.5 – 9.5 | 9 |
| Fegrain refiner / κ-phase former | 2.5 – 4 | 3 |
| Mnresidual limit (per B505 named-element practice) | ≤ 0.5 | |
| Niresidual limit; Ni-bearing service grades are C95500/C95800 | ≤ 1 | |
| Siresidual limit | ≤ 0.25 | |
| Cu86 % min per ASTM B148/B505 | ≥ 86 (balance) |
What surface finishes work on C95200?
Not anodizable; pickle/passivate or shot-blast then paint, or leave bare for seawater service. Polishes to a golden lustre but tarnishes; electroless nickel or chrome plating requires activation of the aluminium oxide.
