What is C92800?
C92800 is a high-tin leaded bronze casting alloy in the C90000–C95999 family, where the hard tin-rich δ-phase carries load and the lead provides lubricity. Default-condition values are 179 MPa yield, 276 MPa tensile, 85 HB and 11 % IACS, with only 1 % elongation, so it is used for heavy-duty bearings, bushings and wear plates cast to near-net shape. The very low ductility means it must not be shock-loaded, bent or worked, and it is not weldable in practice. C92700 or C93400 are the alternatives where more ductility is needed. C92800 has a density of 8.8 g/cm³ (0.318 lb/in³), heavier than 58% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 830°C (1,526 °F). C92800 has a yield strength of 179 MPa (26 ksi) and a tensile strength of 276 MPa (40 ksi) — weaker than 59% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 1% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).
What is C92800 used for?
- heavy-duty bearings
- bushings
- wear plates
Advantages
- Easy to machine — 70/100, better than 78% of copper alloy grades
Limitations
- Limited ductility — 1%, worse than 99% of copper alloy grades
- Difficult to weld — 10/100, worse than 98% of copper alloy grades
- Limited formability — 5/100, worse than 98% of copper alloy grades
- High embodied carbon — 4.5 kg CO₂/kg, worse than 79% of copper alloy grades

Working with C92800
Is C92800 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp carbide or HSS tooling at moderate speeds; lead chips break well but the hard δ-phase abrades edges — use rigid setups and light finishing feeds.
Can C92800 be welded?
Not weldable in practice (hot-short, lead-bearing); repair by soldering or brazing only, or replace the casting.
Can C92800 be formed, bent or molded?
Cast to shape only — no hot or cold working; provide generous risers and controlled cooling to avoid tin sweat and shrinkage porosity in heavy sections.

How much does C92800 cost?
C92800 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
C92800 — frequently asked
What is C92800 used for?
C92800 is typically used for heavy-duty bearings, bushings and wear plates. In short: highest-tin bearing bronze; high load capacity; very low ductility.
