What is C94300?
C94300 (Alloy 3E) is a very high-lead tin bronze in the cast bronze family (C90000–C95999), with roughly 30% lead dispersed through a copper–tin matrix to form a soft, self-lubricating bearing surface. It is used for slow-speed, heavily loaded plain bearings where conformability and dirt embedability matter more than strength, and is supplied as sand, permanent-mould, centrifugal and continuous castings. Default-condition values are 105 MPa yield, 205 MPa tensile, 12% elongation and 55 HB. The lead content makes it effectively unweldable and limits surface finish quality; C94400 offers more strength with less lead. C94300 has a density of 9.29 g/cm³ (0.336 lb/in³), heavier than 99% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 762°C (1,404 °F). C94300 has a yield strength of 105 MPa (15.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 205 MPa (29.7 ksi) — weaker than 85% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 12% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).

Working with C94300
Is C94300 easy to machine?
Extremely free-cutting — use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, light feeds and plenty of coolant; chips break short but the soft lead phase can smear and load fine finishing tools.
Can C94300 be welded?
Effectively unweldable due to 30% lead — repair by mechanical means or replacement; soft-soldering is acceptable, brazing/fusion welding is not.
Can C94300 be formed, bent or molded?
Casting-only alloy with no cold formability; sand, centrifugal, permanent-mold and continuous casting all work well, but gate for low pouring temperature to limit lead segregation and use adequate risers.

What surface finishes work on C94300?
Takes tin, silver or nickel plating for corrosion barrier; polishing gives only a moderate luster because of lead smearing, and bearing bores are normally finished by boring, reaming or burnishing rather than grinding.
