What is C67000?
C67000 is a high-strength copper-zinc-manganese-aluminum-iron alloy, commonly called manganese bronze, covered by ASTM B138 and EN CW704R and supplied as extruded rod, forgings and shapes. It is chosen for load-bearing marine and drive components that need 655 MPa tensile, 379 MPa yield, 20% elongation and 185 HB with corrosion resistance rated 55. Thermal conductivity is only 42 W/m·K, electrical conductivity 12% IACS, service is capped near 200 °C, and both weldability (30) and machinability (32) are limited by hard Fe/Al particles and zinc fuming. C65100 silicon bronze is the alternative when the joint must be welded. C67000 has a density of 8.36 g/cm³ (0.302 lb/in³), lighter than 76% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 862°C (1,584 °F). C67000 has a yield strength of 379 MPa (55 ksi) and a tensile strength of 655 MPa (95 ksi) — stronger than 75% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with C67000
Is C67000 easy to machine?
Machines like a tough alpha-beta brass at roughly 30 % of free-cutting brass — use rigid setups, carbide tooling, positive rake, moderate speeds and generous coolant; hard Fe/Al particles abrade edges.
Can C67000 be welded?
Poor to fair: GTAW/GMAW with aluminium-bronze filler and DCEN cleaning is possible but zinc fuming, aluminium oxide and hot-short HAZ cracking make brazing/soldering unreliable; mechanical joining is preferred.
Can C67000 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent hot workability at 650–760 °C (extrusion, forging); cold formability only fair — limit cold bends in H04 and interanneal at ~550–600 °C for severe forming.
C67000 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.

What surface finishes work on C67000?
Not anodizable; takes a bright mechanical polish and accepts nickel/chrome or tin plating after thorough oxide removal — passivate with benzotriazole or lacquer for marine service and avoid ammonia-containing cleaners.
