What is C99300?

C99300 is a special cast copper alloy with nickel and aluminium additions that develops high strength and wear resistance along with good bearing and anti-galling behaviour. It is used for wear plates, specialty bearings and marine and pump components, cast by sand, permanent-mould and continuous routes with a TQ50 condition on file, reaching 420 MPa yield, 655 MPa tensile, 205 HB (20 HRC) and service to 300 °C. Elongation is only 2.5 %, so the alloy is notch-sensitive and unsuitable for cold forming or shock loading. Unlike the leaded nickel silvers it can be welded with ERCuNiAl filler; C99500 is the tougher alternative when ductility is needed. C99300 has a density of 7.5 g/cm³ (0.271 lb/in³), lighter than 98% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,075°C (1,967 °F). C99300 has a yield strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 655 MPa (95 ksi) — stronger than 83% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 2.5% and the elastic modulus is 120 GPa (17.4 Msi).

Working with C99300

Is C99300 easy to machine?

Tough, gummy and abrasive — use sharp carbide with positive rake, low speed (~40–70 m/min), heavy feed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling to prevent work hardening.

Can C99300 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW with nickel-aluminium bronze filler (ERCuNiAl), preheat 150–250 °C, control interpass temperature and clean the tenacious Al oxide before each pass.

Can C99300 be formed, bent or molded?

Cast-only alloy — not cold formable; design generous fillets, use chills and risers to avoid shrinkage porosity and control melt oxide/hydrogen.
