What is CC753S?

CC753S (CuZn37Pb2Ni1AlFe-C) is a leaded cast brass from the EN cast copper-alloy family, with nickel, aluminium and iron additions that raise strength and wear resistance above plain leaded brass. In the default condition it gives 150 MPa yield, 320 MPa tensile, 18 % elongation and 80 HB, with a machinability score of 80 and service to 200 °C; it is available as sand (GS), permanent-mould (GM), centrifugal (GZ) and continuous (GC) castings. The lead phase makes it free-machining but rules out structural fusion welding, and lead content limits potable-water use. Where a lead-free water-contact casting is required, CC761S silicon brass is the closer choice. CC753S has a density of 8.4 g/cm³ (0.303 lb/in³), lighter than 75% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 880°C (1,616 °F). CC753S has a yield strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) — weaker than 69% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 95 GPa (13.8 Msi).

What is CC753S used for?

  • gear housings
  • marine fittings
  • wear-resistant castings

Working with CC753S

Is CC753S easy to machine?

Machines freely with sharp carbide or HSS at high speed and light feed; Al/Fe/Ni raise cutting forces versus plain leaded brass, use 0° to slightly positive rake and emulsion coolant.

Can CC753S be welded?

Not recommended for structural welding — lead causes hot cracking and Zn fumes; repair by brazing or TIG with silicon-bronze filler on preheated, cleaned metal only.

Can CC753S be formed, bent or molded?

Casting alloy: pour 980–1050 °C with good gating and risers, degas and stir minimally to avoid Al oxide films; no cold forming.
