What is C67600?
C67600 is a leaded manganese bronze (HMn58-2-1), a high-tensile manganese-bearing brass in the C50000–C69999 wrought bronze family with lead added for chip breaking. It gives 565 MPa tensile, 310 MPa yield, 20% elongation and 150 HB with a machinability score of 60 — high for a duplex high-strength brass — and is normally supplied as hot-extruded or forged bar, hubs and blanks. Limits are a 180 °C maximum service temperature, formability of only 35, 24% IACS conductivity, and no fusion weldability because of the lead. An unleaded manganese bronze is the alternative when welding is required. C67600 has a density of 8.36 g/cm³ (0.302 lb/in³), lighter than 76% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 855°C (1,571 °F). C67600 has a yield strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) and a tensile strength of 565 MPa (81.9 ksi) — stronger than 64% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).
What is C67600 used for?
- ship propeller hubs
- valve stems
- gears and bushings
- marine hardware requiring machining
Limitations
- Difficult to weld — 25/100, worse than 78% of copper alloy grades

Working with C67600
Is C67600 easy to machine?
Free-machining for a high-strength brass thanks to the lead: use sharp carbide, 0° to slightly positive rake, high speed and light feed; chips break well but the β phase is abrasive, so expect more tool wear than C36000.
Can C67600 be welded?
Fusion welding is not recommended (lead cracking, zinc fume); join by silver brazing, soft soldering or mechanical fastening with adequate ventilation.
Can C67600 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent hot workability at 650–760 °C (hot forging/extrusion is the preferred route); cold formability is limited — anneal at ~500–600 °C between severe operations.

What surface finishes work on C67600?
Takes a bright mechanical polish; anodizing is not applicable — protect with benzotriazole passivation, lacquer, tin or nickel plating, and avoid ammonia-based cleaners to prevent SCC.
