What is C92400?
C92400 is a general-purpose leaded tin bronze casting alloy (Cu-Sn-Pb-Zn) used where pressure tightness and easy machining matter more than peak strength. Typical values are 150 MPa yield, 295 MPa tensile, 18 % elongation and 80 HB, with service to 250 °C, and it is poured as sand, permanent-mould and centrifugal castings. Limits are poor fusion weldability from lead and tin hot-shortness, and the lead content rules it out where lead-free alloys are mandated. C87400 silicon brass is the usual lead-free substitute for valve and fitting bodies. C92400 has a density of 8.83 g/cm³ (0.319 lb/in³), heavier than 65% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 854°C (1,569 °F). C92400 has a yield strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 295 MPa (42.8 ksi) — weaker than 69% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with C92400
Is C92400 easy to machine?
Free-machining with the lead phase — use sharp positive-rake carbide or HSS tools, high speed, light feed, and expect short chips and good surface finish.
Can C92400 be welded?
Poor fusion weldability due to lead and tin hot-shortness; repair by brazing or by low-heat gas/TIG with matching tin-bronze filler and preheat, or by soldering.
Can C92400 be formed, bent or molded?
Casting alloy only — good fluidity and dross-free pouring around 1120–1180 °C; rely on directional solidification and risering to control interdendritic shrinkage; not cold formable.
