As continuous cast | Choose continuous-cast bar or tube stock when machining finished gears/bushings from solid with minimal porosity. | 350 | 705 | 18 | 185 HB | 8 % IACS |
What is C86200?
C86200 is a high-strength manganese bronze casting alloy (Cu-Zn with aluminium, manganese and iron) used where toughness accompanies high strength. It is poured in sand, permanent-mould, centrifugal and continuous moulds for gears, valve stems and structural marine parts: 690 MPa tensile, 340 MPa yield, 20% elongation, 180 HB. Machinability is roughly 30% of free-cutting brass, fusion welding is complicated by the aluminium oxide film, and dezincification limits stagnant-seawater service; C86400 or C86700 machine more easily at lower strength. C86200 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 90% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 862°C (1,584 °F). C86200 has a yield strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 690 MPa (100 ksi) — stronger than 71% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 105 GPa (15.2 Msi).
What is C86200 used for?

Working with C86200
Is C86200 easy to machine?
Machinability ~30% of free-cutting brass — tough, stringy chips; use sharp positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, moderate speeds and generous coolant.
Can C86200 be welded?
Arc (GTAW/GMAW) welding with matching aluminum-bronze/manganese-bronze filler is fair; preheat and low heat input, avoid oxyfuel due to Al oxide film; soldering is poor.
Can C86200 be formed, bent or molded?
Casting alloy only — sand, permanent mold, centrifugal and continuous cast; degas and skim well to avoid Al oxide dross and control pouring turbulence.

What surface finishes work on C86200?
Polishes to a bright gold tone; can be chrome/nickel plated after proper strike, and often left bare with protective lacquer for marine service.
Surface treatments FabDigit runs on copper alloy parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).
How much does C86200 cost?
C86200 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
C86200 — frequently asked
What is C86200 used for?
