What is C90300?
C90300 is an 88Cu-8Sn-4Zn tin bronze casting alloy covered by ASTM B584 and SAE 622. Castings deliver 145 MPa yield, 310 MPa tensile, 30% elongation and about 70 HB, with 75 W/m·K thermal conductivity, 12% IACS and service to 260 °C, which suits pressure-tight valve bodies, pump housings and fittings in sand, permanent-mold, centrifugal or continuous cast form. It is a foundry alloy only, fusion welds poorly, and lead is limited to 0.3% so chips stay stringy despite a machinability rating of 55. C90500 is the nearest alternative when higher hardness and wear resistance matter more than ductility. C90300 has a density of 8.8 g/cm³ (0.318 lb/in³), heavier than 58% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 854°C (1,569 °F). C90300 has a yield strength of 145 MPa (21 ksi) and a tensile strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) — weaker than 72% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 30% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with C90300
Is C90300 easy to machine?
Machines readily (≈30 % of free-cutting brass) with sharp positive-rake carbide or HSS tools, high speed, light feed and soluble-oil coolant; chips are somewhat stringy because Pb is limited to 0.3 %.
Can C90300 be welded?
Soldering and brazing are excellent; GTAW/oxyfuel repair welding with phosphor-bronze filler needs 150–250 °C preheat and slow cooling to avoid hot cracking from tin segregation.
Can C90300 be formed, bent or molded?
Foundry alloy only — cast in sand, permanent mold, centrifugal or continuous form with generous risering because of the wide freezing range; not cold-formable.
