What is CC382H?

CC382H is a chromium-modified 30 % nickel cast copper-nickel (CuNi30Cr2FeMnSi-C) developed for higher strength and hardness than standard cast CuNi30. It is poured as sand, die, centrifugal and continuous castings and can be supplied heat treated (HT), reaching 275 MPa yield, 470 MPa tensile, 20 % elongation and 130 HB, which suits high-load seawater impellers and propellers. Elongation is lower than the plain 70-30 grade, service is limited to 300 °C, and there is no widely used UNS equivalent, so availability is narrower; CC383H is the niobium-stabilised alternative. CC382H has a density of 8.8 g/cm³ (0.318 lb/in³), heavier than 58% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,180°C (2,156 °F). CC382H has a yield strength of 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) — stronger than 57% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 150 GPa (21.8 Msi).

Working with CC382H

Is CC382H easy to machine?

Gummy and work-hardening — use sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feed, low-to-moderate speed (40–70 m/min) and copious coolant; avoid dwelling to prevent glazing.

Can CC382H be welded?

Weldable by GTAW/GMAW with 70/30 Cu-Ni-Nb (ERCuNi) filler, no preheat, low interpass temperature; keep the melt free of sulphur, lead and phosphorus to avoid hot cracking.

Can CC382H be formed, bent or molded?

Casting grade only — pour hot with deoxidation (Mn/Si, avoid P), use generous risers and chills because of the long freezing range and high shrinkage (~2%).

CC382H is typically used for high-strength propellers, seawater pump impellers and naval fittings. In short: highest-hardness cast Cu-Ni; chromium-strengthened 30 % Ni; heat-treatable casting grade.

What is the yield strength of CC382H?

CC382H has a typical yield strength of 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) — stronger than 57% of copper alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 5 listed tempers.

Is CC382H easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (22/100, worse than 94% of copper alloy grades). Gummy and work-hardening — use sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feed, low-to-moderate speed (40–70 m/min) and copious coolant; avoid dwelling to prevent glazing.

Can CC382H be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (65/100).

What is the maximum service temperature of CC382H?

CC382H is rated for continuous use to about 300°C (572 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
