What is CC765S?
CC765S (CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-C, in the C86200 group) is a moderate-strength manganese-aluminium cast brass with lower Mn and Al than CC764S, giving 230 MPa yield, 480 MPa tensile, 22 % elongation and 120 HB. Engineers use it where strength, machinability and cost must be balanced, in sand, chill, centrifugal and continuous castings (GS, GM, GZ, GC). Its machinability rating of 45 is better than the higher-alloyed manganese brasses but still well below free-cutting brass, welding is only fair, and service is limited to about 200 °C. For higher loads, step up to CC764S. CC765S has a density of 8 g/cm³ (0.289 lb/in³), lighter than 87% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 880°C (1,616 °F). CC765S has a yield strength of 230 MPa (33.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 480 MPa (69.6 ksi) — stronger than 51% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 100 GPa (14.5 Msi).
What is CC765S used for?
- gears
- hardware castings
- marine fittings
Limitations
- Low stiffness — 100 GPa (14.5 Msi), worse than 82% of copper alloy grades
- Low fracture toughness — 35 MPa·√m (31.9 ksi·√in), worse than 79% of copper alloy grades

Working with CC765S
Is CC765S easy to machine?
Turns and mills well with sharp carbide at moderate speed, but chips are tougher and tool wear higher than free-cutting brass — use positive rake, generous coolant and expect ~30–45 % of HPb59-1 productivity.
Can CC765S be welded?
Fusion welding is only fair: TIG/MIG with matching or Cu-Si filler, preheat 150–250 °C, remove Al/Zn oxide film and accept zinc fume plus some strength loss in the HAZ; brazing is preferred for repairs.
Can CC765S be formed, bent or molded?
Cast only (sand, chill, centrifugal, continuous); short freezing range gives good fluidity but needs directional solidification, generous risering and degassing to avoid gas porosity and Al dross.

What surface finishes work on CC765S?
Machined surfaces polish to a bright yellow finish; can be nickel/chrome plated after copper strike, or lacquered — no anodizing; avoid ammonia-containing cleaners to prevent stress-corrosion cracking.

CC765S — frequently asked
What is CC765S used for?
CC765S is typically used for gears, hardware castings and marine fittings. In short: balanced-cost manganese brass; better machining than CC764S; mid-strength engineering castings.
What is the yield strength of CC765S?
CC765S has a typical yield strength of 230 MPa (33.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 480 MPa (69.6 ksi) — stronger than 51% of copper alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.
Is CC765S easy to machine?
Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (45/100, better than 64% of copper alloy grades). Turns and mills well with sharp carbide at moderate speed, but chips are tougher and tool wear higher than free-cutting brass — use positive rake, generous coolant and expect ~30–45 % of HPb59-1 productivity.
Can CC765S be welded?
With care — weldability is rated fair (40/100). Fusion welding is only fair: TIG/MIG with matching or Cu-Si filler, preheat 150–250 °C, remove Al/Zn oxide film and accept zinc fume plus some strength loss in the HAZ; brazing is preferred for repairs.
