What is ZL110?
ZL110 (ZAlSi5Cu6Mg, close to 333.0) is a GB Al-Si-Cu-Mg casting alloy in which about 5 % Si provides fluidity while a high copper level provides strength and hot hardness. It is produced as sand and permanent-mould castings in F, T1, T5, T6 and T7 conditions; the default data point is 210 MPa tensile, 155 MPa yield, 92 HB and service to 200 °C. Elongation is only 0.5 %, so it suits stiff, statically loaded parts rather than impact loading, and the high Cu content lowers corrosion resistance and makes fusion repair hot-crack prone. Choose an Al-Si-Mg alloy such as ZL114A when ductility or weld repair is required. ZL110 has a density of 2.8 g/cm³ (0.101 lb/in³), heavier than 81% of aluminum grades. It melts at 525°C (977 °F). ZL110 has a yield strength of 155 MPa (22.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) — weaker than 63% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 0.5% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).

Working with ZL110
Is ZL110 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp carbide or PCD tooling and high speeds; the eutectic Si is abrasive, so expect tool wear and use flood coolant to avoid built-up edge.
Can ZL110 be welded?
Poor fusion weldability — the high Cu content promotes hot cracking; repair only with 4047/4145 filler, low heat input and preheat, then re-age.
Can ZL110 be formed, bent or molded?
Sand or permanent-mould cast only; good fluidity from the 5 % Si but feed heavily and use chills, as Cu widens the freezing range and raises shrinkage/hot-tear risk.

What surface finishes work on ZL110?
Anodising gives dark, uneven films — use chromate conversion, primer/paint or hard anodise for wear only; shot blasting and impregnation are common for pressure-tight castings.
