What is EN AC-51100?
EN AC-51100 (AlMg3, G-AlMg3) is a non-heat-treatable Al-Mg sand and gravity casting alloy in the EN 1706 family, supplied as S-F, K-F or S-O, with corrosion resistance from magnesium in solid solution rather than from precipitates. It is used where seawater and marine exposure matter, and where anodized or polished cast surfaces are required, giving 150 MPa tensile, 80 MPa yield, 4% elongation, 50 HB and 145 W/m·K. Casting is the constraint: fluidity is poor, oxide and hot-tear tendency high, service temperature limited to about 120 °C. EN AC-51300 AlMg5 is the next step up in strength. EN AC-51100 has a density of 2.66 g/cm³ (0.0961 lb/in³), lighter than 84% of aluminum grades. It melts at 600°C (1,112 °F). EN AC-51100 has a yield strength of 80 MPa (11.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) — weaker than 90% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 4% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with EN AC-51100
Is EN AC-51100 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp polished-flute carbide tools, high speed and generous coolant; slightly gummy chips, so use high rake and chip breakers to avoid built-up edge.
Can EN AC-51100 be welded?
Readily TIG/MIG welded with ER5356 (Al-5Mg) filler; clean oxide thoroughly, no post-weld heat treatment needed since the alloy is non-heat-treatable.
Can EN AC-51100 be formed, bent or molded?
Poor fluidity and strong oxide/hot-tear tendency — needs good gating, degassing, flux/cover protection and generous fillets; not suited to thin or intricate sections.
