What is EN AC-71100?
EN AC-71100 (AlZn10Si8Mg) is a zinc-bearing Al-Si casting alloy that strengthens by natural ageing in the T1 condition, so no solution treatment or quench is needed and castings stay dimensionally stable. Typical values are 270 MPa tensile, 205 MPa yield, 1.5 % elongation and 90 HB with 27 % IACS and service to 150 °C, mainly in high-pressure die-cast and gravity-cast housings, brackets and automotive components. Ductility is low, the alloy is effectively unweldable by fusion methods, and clear decorative anodizing gives uneven films. EN AC-46000 (AlSi9Cu3) is the usual alternative where established die-casting practice and lower cost matter more. EN AC-71100 has a density of 2.9 g/cm³ (0.105 lb/in³), heavier than 98% of aluminum grades. It melts at 550°C (1,022 °F). EN AC-71100 has a yield strength of 205 MPa (29.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 270 MPa (39.2 ksi) — stronger than 54% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 1.5% and the elastic modulus is 71 GPa (10.3 Msi).

Working with EN AC-71100
Is EN AC-71100 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp carbide or PCD tooling and high speeds; Si particles cause abrasive wear, and the naturally aged state machines cleaner than the soft as-cast state.
Can EN AC-71100 be welded?
Essentially unweldable by fusion methods — die-cast gas porosity blisters and the high Zn volatilizes; use mechanical fastening or adhesive bonding.
Can EN AC-71100 be formed, bent or molded?
High-pressure die casting alloy with good fluidity at 8 % Si; keep dies at 180–250 °C, avoid heavy sections and slow fill to limit hot tearing and shrink porosity.

What surface finishes work on EN AC-71100?
Take chromate-free conversion coating, powder coat or paint; anodizing gives dark, uneven films, so decorative clear anodize is not recommended (hard anodize is workable).
