What is EN AC-43200?

EN AC-43200 (AlSi10Mg(Cu)) is a copper-modified near-eutectic Al-Si-Mg casting alloy used mainly for pressure die casting, where the copper raises strength and machinability. Default as-cast properties are 190 MPa tensile, 100 MPa yield, 2 % elongation and 60 HB, with 145 W/m·K conductivity and a 555 °C melting point; F, T5, T6 and T64 conditions are on file. The copper reduces corrosion resistance and raises hot-cracking risk, and ductility is modest with service capped near 150 °C. Use EN AC-43100 (AlSi10Mg(b)) where corrosion resistance or weldability matters more than strength. EN AC-43200 has a density of 2.65 g/cm³ (0.0957 lb/in³), lighter than 90% of aluminum grades. It melts at 555°C (1,031 °F). EN AC-43200 has a yield strength of 100 MPa (14.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) — weaker than 84% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 2% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).

Working with EN AC-43200

Is EN AC-43200 easy to machine?

Machines well with PCD or coated carbide at high speed; the eutectic silicon is abrasive, so use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake tools and copious coolant.

Can EN AC-43200 be welded?

Weldable by TIG/MIG with 4043/AlSi12 filler, but the copper content raises hot-cracking risk and porosity from entrapped gas makes die castings generally unsuitable for fusion welding.

Can EN AC-43200 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent fluidity and low hot-tearing tendency for sand, permanent-mould and pressure die casting; design uniform sections and adequate feeding to avoid shrinkage porosity — cold forming is not possible.

EN AC-43200 — frequently asked

What is EN AC-43200 used for?

EN AC-43200 is typically used for die-cast housings, brackets and automotive gearbox components. In short: copper-boosted AlSi10Mg; higher strength, lower corrosion; die-casting workhorse.

What is the yield strength of EN AC-43200?

EN AC-43200 has a typical yield strength of 100 MPa (14.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) — weaker than 84% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is EN AC-43200 easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (50/100, worse than 65% of aluminum grades). Machines well with PCD or coated carbide at high speed; the eutectic silicon is abrasive, so use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake tools and copious coolant.

Can EN AC-43200 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (65/100). Weldable by TIG/MIG with 4043/AlSi12 filler, but the copper content raises hot-cracking risk and porosity from entrapped gas makes die castings generally unsuitable for fusion welding.

What surface finishes work on EN AC-43200?

Can EN AC-43200 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent fluidity and low hot-tearing tendency for sand, permanent-mould and pressure die casting; design uniform sections and adequate feeding to avoid shrinkage porosity — cold forming is not possible.

What is the maximum service temperature of EN AC-43200?

EN AC-43200 is rated for continuous use to about 150°C (302 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between EN AC-43200-F and EN AC-43200-T6?
