What is ZL107?
ZL107 (319.0) is a GB/T 1173 Al-Si-Cu casting alloy with roughly 4% Cu, offered as-cast or T6 in both sand (F, T6) and permanent-mold (J-F, J-T6) conditions. Fluidity, low hot-tearing tendency, HB 95 hardness and machinability 65 make it a general engineering choice for housings, brackets and machinery castings at 180 MPa yield and 250 MPa tensile, usable to 200 °C. Copper lowers corrosion resistance and makes repair welding hot-crack sensitive, elongation is only 2%, and thermal conductivity is 110 W/m·K (27% IACS), below the AlSi7Mg alloys. ZL105 is the nearer choice when pressure tightness and ductility matter. ZL107 has a density of 2.77 g/cm³ (0.1 lb/in³), heavier than 71% of aluminum grades. It melts at 516°C (961 °F). ZL107 has a yield strength of 180 MPa (26.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) — weaker than 54% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 2% and the elastic modulus is 74 GPa (10.7 Msi).

Working with ZL107
Is ZL107 easy to machine?
Machines well for a casting alloy thanks to the Cu content and T6 hardness; use PCD or carbide tooling because of the eutectic Si and expect abrasive tool wear.
Can ZL107 be welded?
TIG/MIG repair is possible with 4043/4047 filler but the ~4 % Cu makes it hot-crack sensitive; preheat and re-heat-treat locally repaired structural castings.
Can ZL107 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent fluidity and low hot-tearing tendency in sand and permanent-mould casting; feed heavy sections well and degas the melt to avoid porosity.

What surface finishes work on ZL107?
Takes paint and chromate/phosphate conversion coatings well; anodizing yields only a dark grey film, so use hard-coat only for wear, not appearance.
