What is B535.0?
B535.0 is the relaxed-impurity secondary version of the 535.0 Al-Mg casting alloy, used as-cast (F, F-PM) or in T5 with no solution treatment required. It offers 255 MPa tensile, 125 MPa yield, 9% elongation and 65 HB together with a machinability rating of 88, a corrosion resistance score of 78 and bright anodizing, mainly in sand and permanent-mold marine and architectural castings. Foundry practice is demanding because of low fluidity and hot-tear sensitivity, and service is limited to 120 °C at 100 W/m·K; A535.0 is the tighter-impurity equivalent. B535.0 has a density of 2.62 g/cm³ (0.0947 lb/in³), lighter than 96% of aluminum grades. It melts at 549°C (1,020 °F). B535.0 has a yield strength of 125 MPa (18.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) — weaker than 75% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 9% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with B535.0
Is B535.0 easy to machine?
One of the best-machining cast aluminums — sharp uncoated carbide or PCD, high speed, low feed pressure, gives bright chip-free surfaces with minimal built-up edge.
Can B535.0 be welded?
Readily GTAW/GMAW welded with 5356 or 5556 filler; preheat sparingly, keep interpass low and avoid Si-bearing 4043 filler which forms brittle Mg2Si.
Can B535.0 be formed, bent or molded?
Difficult foundry alloy: low fluidity and high hot-tear sensitivity require chills, generous risering, careful degassing/fluxing and tight mold-coating; not suitable for thin, intricate die castings.
