| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
As fabricated | Cheapest condition for low-stress parts or castings that will be heat treated later. | 90 | 160 | 2 | 60 HB | 42 % IACS |
Solution heat treated and naturally aged | Choose when impact/ductility and shock resistance matter more than yield strength. | 105 | 200 | 4 | 75 HB | 35 % IACS |
Solution heat treated and under-aged | Use when T6 strength is nearly needed but a few percent elongation is required. | 165 | 225 | 3 | 82 HB | 38 % IACS |
Solution heat treated and overaged (stabilized) | Pick for dimensional stability and best resistance to elevated-temperature softening (e.g. heads, housings running hot). | 165 | 210 | 2.5 | 80 HB | 42 % IACS |
T6Default Solution heat treated and artificially aged | Standard high-strength condition for structural and pressure-tight castings; accept low elongation. | 200 | 255 | 1.5 | 95 HB | 39 % IACS |
What is EN AC-45300?
EN AC-45300 (AlSi5Cu1Mg, 355.0, AC4D, ZL105) is a heat-treatable Al-Si-Cu-Mg sand and gravity casting alloy available in F, T4, T6, T64 and T7. It is one of the most widely used structural casting alloys because it combines pressure tightness with a useful strength-to-weight balance: 200 MPa yield, 255 MPa tensile, 95 HB, 71 GPa modulus, 150 W/m·K and 39 % IACS in the default condition. Limits are 1.5 % elongation, service to 175 °C and hot-cracking sensitivity from the 1–1.5 % Cu (weldability score 55); EN AC-45100 offers higher strength and 200 °C service where weldability is not needed. EN AC-45300 has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0979 lb/in³), heavier than 51% of aluminum grades. It melts at 550°C (1,022 °F). Working with EN AC-45300
Is EN AC-45300 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp PCD or polished carbide tooling and high speeds; eutectic Si is abrasive, so expect faster edge wear than 6061 and use flood coolant to avoid built-up edge.
Can EN AC-45300 be welded?
TIG/MIG repair welding is possible with 4043 or 4145 filler, but the 1–1.5 % Cu gives hot-cracking sensitivity and post-weld solution + age is needed to restore T6 properties.
Can EN AC-45300 be formed, bent or molded?
Sand and gravity (permanent-mould) casting alloy with good fluidity and pressure tightness; feed well and control Fe to keep ductility — it is not a cold-formable alloy.
