What is 360.0?

360.0 is an Al-Si-Mg high-pressure die casting alloy (A03600, SG100B, YL104) delivering roughly 172 MPa yield, 324 MPa tensile, 3% elongation and 75 HB in the as-cast F temper, with 113 W/m·K thermal conductivity. It is chosen for high fluidity, pressure tightness and better corrosion resistance than the Al-Si-Cu die casting alloys, typically for housings, covers and thin-wall parts with walls below 2 mm. Fusion welding of die castings is unreliable because of entrapped gas, solution heat treatment is avoided to prevent blistering, and service is limited to about 150 °C. Decorative anodizing is grey and blotchy; 380.0 is the lower-cost alternative where corrosion resistance matters less. 360.0 has a density of 2.64 g/cm³ (0.0954 lb/in³), lighter than 94% of aluminum grades. It melts at 557°C (1,035 °F). 360.0 has a yield strength of 172 MPa (24.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 324 MPa (47 ksi) — weaker than 55% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 3% and the elastic modulus is 71 GPa (10.3 Msi).

Working with 360.0

Is 360.0 easy to machine?

Machines well with sharp positive-rake carbide or PCD tooling and flood coolant; eutectic Si is abrasive, so avoid HSS for production runs.

Can 360.0 be welded?

Fusion welding is generally not recommended on die castings (entrapped gas causes porosity/blistering); use mechanical fastening, adhesives or friction-stir/laser welding on vacuum-cast parts.

Can 360.0 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent die-casting fluidity and pressure tightness, suited to walls below 2 mm; solution heat treatment is normally avoided because of blister formation.

What is the maximum service temperature of 360.0?

360.0 is rated for continuous use to about 150°C (302 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between 360.0-F and 360.0 A360-F?

F is the default condition — standard supply condition for 360.0 die castings; use for thin-wall, pressure-tight parts needing moderate strength.
