What is C443.0?
C443.0 is a secondary (recycled-stock) Al-Si die casting alloy of the ANSI/AA 4xx.x family, nominally around 5% Si, that relies on silicon content rather than heat treatment for its properties. Engineers specify it for thin-wall die-cast housings and fittings that need high fluidity plus better ductility and corrosion resistance than copper-bearing die casting alloys: 110 MPa yield, 228 MPa tensile, 9% elongation, 65 HB, 142 W/m·K and 37% IACS in F condition. It is not heat treatable, is limited to about 150 °C service, and die castings cannot be reliably fusion welded. Where higher as-cast strength is needed, A380.0 is the usual alternative. C443.0 has a density of 2.69 g/cm³ (0.0972 lb/in³), lighter than 67% of aluminum grades. It melts at 577°C (1,071 °F). C443.0 has a yield strength of 110 MPa (16 ksi) and a tensile strength of 228 MPa (33.1 ksi) — weaker than 81% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 9% and the elastic modulus is 71 GPa (10.3 Msi).
What is C443.0 used for?
- Die-cast housings and enclosures
- Hardware fittings
- Thin-wall covers and bezels
- Electrical and instrument cases
- Brackets and mounting plates
- Decorative cast trim
- Heat-dissipating cast frames
Limitations
- Low fracture toughness — 17 MPa·√m (15.5 ksi·√in), worse than 83% of aluminum grades
- Low strength — 110 MPa (16 ksi), worse than 81% of aluminum grades

Working with C443.0
Is C443.0 easy to machine?
Machines readily with sharp PCD or polished-flute carbide tools and high speeds; Si particles are abrasive so uncoated HSS wears quickly, and gummy chips need good coolant and chip breakers.
Can C443.0 be welded?
Fusion welding of die castings is unreliable because entrapped gas blisters and blows the weld; use mechanical joining, adhesives, or TIG only for cosmetic repair on low-gas (vacuum/squeeze) castings with 4043 filler.
Can C443.0 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent die-casting fluidity and low hot-tearing lets it fill very thin (≈1 mm) walls; not heat-treatable, so section design rather than temper sets strength.

What surface finishes work on C443.0?
Takes chromate/chemical conversion coats and powder paint well; anodizing gives a dark grey, non-decorative film, and polishing is limited by exposed silicon particles.
