What is EN AC-44000?
EN AC-44000 (AlSi11) is a near-eutectic aluminium-silicon casting alloy in the EN 1706 (EN AC-) family, used as-cast in the F condition with no heat treatment. High fluidity and pressure tightness make it a common choice for thin-walled, complex sand, gravity-die and investment castings; as-cast values are about 190 MPa tensile, 85 MPa yield, 9 % elongation, 50 HB and 150 W/m·K. Without Mg or Cu it cannot be age-hardened, service is limited to roughly 150 °C, and the abrasive eutectic silicon holds machinability to a moderate level. EN AC-44400 (AlSi9) is the nearest alternative for easier machining. EN AC-44000 has a density of 2.65 g/cm³ (0.0957 lb/in³), lighter than 90% of aluminum grades. It melts at 574°C (1,065 °F). EN AC-44000 has a yield strength of 85 MPa (12.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) — weaker than 88% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 9% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).

- general purpose sand/permanent mold castings
Advantages
- Readily welded — 85/100, better than 79% of aluminum grades
Limitations
- Low electrical conductivity — 25 % IACS, worse than 92% of aluminum grades

Working with EN AC-44000
Is EN AC-44000 easy to machine?
Machines freely but the eutectic Si is abrasive — use polycrystalline-diamond or coated carbide, high speed, sharp positive rake and generous coolant to avoid built-up edge.
Can EN AC-44000 be welded?
Excellent TIG/MIG weldability with ER4047 or ER4043 filler; near-eutectic composition means very low hot-cracking risk, no post-weld heat treatment needed.
Can EN AC-44000 be formed, bent or molded?
Foundry alloy only — outstanding fluidity and pressure tightness for thin walls (down to ~2 mm) in sand, gravity die and investment moulds; Sr modification and Ti-B grain refinement recommended.
