EN AC-44400 tempers and conditions
EN AC-44400 is supplied in 3 conditions, soft to hard. F-K is the default FabDigit quotes; the values on this page are for it.
Compare all 3 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
F | Choose for large, low-volume or complex sand castings; coarser structure gives lower strength than chill castings. | 90 | 165 | 4 | 47 HB | 37 % IACS |
F-KDefault F | Standard stocked condition: gravity die (chill) castings used as-cast; best balance of strength, ductility and soundness. | 100 | 190 | 5 | 50 HB | 37 % IACS |
F | Thin-wall, high-volume parts: rapid solidification refines the structure and raises strength and hardness, but elongation and weldability drop (entrapped gas). | 130 | 240 | 2 | 58 HB | 145 W/m·K |
What is EN AC-44400?
EN AC-44400 (AlSi9) is a hypoeutectic aluminium-silicon casting alloy of the EN 1706 family, used as-cast (F) in permanent-mould (F-K), sand (F-S) and die-cast (F-D) form. It offers good fluidity with more ductility than the eutectic AlSi12 grades: 190 MPa tensile, 100 MPa yield, 5 % elongation, 50 HB and 150 W/m·K, and it machines more freely than AlSi11 or AlSi12. There is no Cu or Mg for age hardening, so strength is moderate and service is limited to about 150 °C. EN AC-44000 (AlSi11) is the closer option when very thin walls demand maximum fluidity. EN AC-44400 has a density of 2.65 g/cm³ (0.0957 lb/in³), lighter than 90% of aluminum grades. It melts at 560°C (1,040 °F). EN AC-44400 has a yield strength of 100 MPa (14.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) — weaker than 84% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 5% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).
What is EN AC-44400 used for?

Working with EN AC-44400
Is EN AC-44400 easy to machine?
Machines freely with sharp PCD or polished-flute carbide tools and high speeds; the eutectic Si is abrasive, so avoid HSS for production runs and use flood coolant to prevent built-up edge.
Can EN AC-44400 be welded?
Readily TIG/MIG welded and weld-repaired with ER4043/AlSi5 or AlSi12 filler; die-cast parts weld poorly because of entrapped gas porosity.
Can EN AC-44400 be formed, bent or molded?
Foundry alloy only — excellent fluidity and low hot-tearing sensitivity for thin sections; use Sr or Na modification plus Ti-B grain refinement and good degassing for best ductility.

What surface finishes work on EN AC-44400?
Takes chromate/anodic protective coatings, powder coat and paint well after thorough degreasing; anodizing produces a grey, non-decorative film and polishing is limited by Si particles.
