What is 201.0?
201.0 is a high-strength Al-Cu-Ag sand and permanent-mold casting alloy (A02010, CQ51A) with silver and magnesium additions and T4 through T71 heat treatments. In T6/T7 it develops about 420 MPa yield and 470 MPa tensile with 6% elongation and HB 130, the highest strength-to-weight ratio among cast aluminums, and it holds properties to 200 °C. It is used for aerospace structural castings that would otherwise be machined from wrought plate. Trade-offs are severe hot-tearing sensitivity, poor fusion weldability, corrosion resistance that requires coating, and foundry cost well above A356.0, the usual alternative when strength allows. 201.0 has a density of 2.8 g/cm³ (0.101 lb/in³), heavier than 81% of aluminum grades. It melts at 571°C (1,060 °F). 201.0 has a yield strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) — stronger than 89% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 6% and the elastic modulus is 71 GPa (10.3 Msi).

Working with 201.0
Is 201.0 easy to machine?
Machines very well in T6/T7 with sharp carbide tooling and high speeds; gummy in T4 — use polished flutes and generous coolant.
Can 201.0 be welded?
Poor fusion weldability: severe hot-tearing risk; repair welding only with qualified 2319/206-type filler plus full re-solution and re-age.
Can 201.0 be formed, bent or molded?
Sand and permanent-mold casting only, with chills, heavy risers and directional solidification; long freezing range makes thin, unfed sections hot-tear prone.
