Compare all 4 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
TMCP, stress relieved after forming/welding | Only for large welded frames needing dimensional stability; keep below ~580 °C and short holds, since TMCP strength is permanently lost at higher temperatures. | 700 | 780 | 16 | 21 HRC | 8.5 % IACS |
TMCPDefault Thermomechanically controlled processed | Standard as-delivered hot-rolled TMCP coil/sheet/plate; the condition in which all EN 10149-2 properties are guaranteed. | 740 | 810 | 14 | 245 HB | — |
descaled coil/sheet surface | Choose when a clean, scale-free surface is needed for direct painting, laser cutting or close-tolerance cold forming; mechanical properties identical to as-rolled TMCP. | 740 | 810 | 14 | 23 HRC | 8 % IACS |
TMCP with low-temperature impact option | Producer-enhanced S700MC ordered with guaranteed Charpy energy at −40 °C for cold-climate cranes, trailers and mining equipment. | 760 | 820 | 15 | 24 HRC | 8 % IACS |
What is S700MC?
S700MC (Q690M) is a thermomechanically rolled micro-alloyed HSLA sheet steel of the EN 10149-2 family, strengthened by controlled rolling and micro-alloying additions rather than by quenching and tempering. It provides 740 MPa yield, 810 MPa tensile, 14 % elongation and about 245 HB, and is supplied as TMCP, pickled and oiled, low-temperature-tested or stress-relieved sheet for weight-critical welded structures. Trade-offs are limited elongation with high springback, machinability of 45 and no corrosion resistance; weldability is good at 85. Use S500MC or S355MC where forming demands are heavier. S700MC has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,460°C (2,660 °F). S700MC has a yield strength of 740 MPa (107 ksi) and a tensile strength of 810 MPa (117 ksi) — stronger than 83% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with S700MC
Is S700MC easy to machine?
Machines like a tough 250 HB HSLA steel — use coated carbide, rigid setups, moderate speeds and positive rake; drilling and tapping need reduced feeds versus mild steel.
Can S700MC be welded?
Very good weldability with low CEV (~0.40); use low-hydrogen consumables, control heat input (typically ≤1.5–2.0 kJ/mm) and interpass temperature to limit HAZ softening — matching or slightly undermatching filler is common.
Can S700MC be formed, bent or molded?
Designed for cold forming: bend transverse to rolling direction with a punch radius of about 1.5–2.5×t, allow for springback of 5–10° and avoid sheared-edge cracking by deburring or milling edges.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to S700MC. Every S700MC part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.

What surface finishes work on S700MC?
Shot-blast or pickle to remove mill scale, then zinc-rich primer/paint or powder coat; hot-dip galvanising is possible but the bath temperature slightly reduces yield strength.
